2021-2022 Priorities
- VDI (Virtual Desktop Initiative)
- Expand virtual desktop initiative by using server based technology that will free up computer labs that have been reserved for this purpose. This requires an expansion of our virtual servers and storage.
- Wireless
- Continue with the expansion of wireless network access concentrating on academic areas. Additional access points were purchased to improve connectivity for both outdoor and indoor access, which IT is in the process of installing. The fiber installation project has made some traction where priority locations were given to CUNY to begin next steps.
- BCDR (Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery)
- Security remains a top concern and IT will be working with College constituencies as we modify and develop our business continuity disaster recovery plan. This plan will also include contingency and communication plans to be leveraged by IT and areas throughout the College that provide critical services. As part of this initiative, processes and protocols will be documented in order to comply with CUNY policy. We are currenlty building out DR disaster recovery and failover site on campus using buildings that are distanced on the grounds.
- MFA (Multi-factor Authentication)
- In response to a dramatic rise in the scope and sophistication of phishing, spear phishing, and malware attacks that are targeting faculty and staff, the Office of Technology Systems will be deploying multi-factor authentication for computer logins starting with the Spring 2022 semester. The high rate of successfully compromised passwords is a severe and pervasive threat to the University which the Central Office would like the campuses to address. Some of the types of threats and how to look out for them can be found on CUNY Centrals website at Information Security – The City University of New York (cuny.edu).
- Hyflex
- Continue to expand training and technology across all classrooms in order to leverage technology that will support a mixed modality of learning.
