FOOD PROTECTION
The Food Protection Certification Course is a 2-day weekend intensive designed to equip participants with essential food protection practices, ensuring the safety of food served in New York City’s food establishments. This course meets the NYC Health Code requirement for supervisors and staff in food service businesses to obtain food protection certification. The certification exam is conducted on the final day of training, and study manuals are available in over 50 languages.
Upon successful passing of exam, you will receive a Food Handler’s card issued by The Department of Health.

NY Department of Health Food Protection Certification Exam
The College of Staten Island is pleased to partner with the NY Department of Health (DOH) to offer an additional location in New York City for the in-person Food Protection certification exam.
To qualify for testing, you MUST have:
- Completed the Department of Health self-guided training
- Received email confirmation of successful completion from the Department of Health
- Submitted email confirmation for CSI records
- Prepared to submit a $25 exam registration fee
