The Master of Science in Business Management is designed for a broad spectrum of students to obtain knowledge and understanding of the economic, social, psychological, and governmental forces that influence business on a global scale. Students will learn the analytical frameworks and techniques that can be used to interpret dynamic business environments and prepare effective business strategies, as well as the major theories of organizational dynamics, competition, and strategy. Graduates will be able to think analytically, communicate clearly, and work effectively in a pluralistic group setting.


Students in the Master's degree program in Business Management are required to take 30 credit hours, or ten courses at three credits each, at the graduate level. Two tracks are offered in order to complete the Master of Science in Business Management:

  • Strategic Management Track
  • Large-Scale Data Analysis Track

The Large-Scale Data Analysis Track offers students wishing to study management with a focus on quantitative management the opportunity to focus their study on the areas of management that are strongly grounded in quantitative methods. The track is focused on large-scale data and includes significant opportunity to utilize the large scale computational resources of the CUNY High Performance Computing Center.

Students in the Master’s degree program in Business Management - Large-Scale Data Anaylsis Track are required to take 30 credit hours, or ten courses at three credits each, at the graduate level.

Admission Requirements
 

An applicant must have completed a bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, or a related field, or be a current student in a graduate degree program (e.g., Environmental Science, Biology, Computer Science or other related fields). 

Major and overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in computation methods using programming techniques of a high-level computing language (e.g., SAS, Matlab R). In addition, undergraduate preparation in economics, statistics, analytical methods and calculus are required.

The Strategic Management Track offers students an opportunity to study management with a focus on management theory and decision-making skills. Students are given a firm grounding in management, finance, marketing, ethics, human resource management, and global business strategy and have the option to take two elective courses in various areas of business.

Students in the Master’s degree program in Business Management - Strategic Management Track are required to take 30 credit hours, or ten courses at three credits each, at the graduate level.

Transcripts:

Request official transcripts from all US institutions attended to be sent to CAS. International Transcripts (For those who studied outside of the U.S.) will need to be evaluated by World Education Services (WES) or  Education Credential Evaluators (ECE).  The evaluation must be sent directly to CAS.  There's a link in the Academic History section of the application to order your official evaluation. 

Application Fee:

Submit a $75.00 non-refundable application fee.  The fee must be paid online via the CAS application system.  Applicants who are veterans of the United States Military Service, currently on Active Duty or members of the National Guard or Reserves, may obtain an application fee waiver.  Veteran applicants must submit proof of their Veteran/Military status (ie., DD-214, Current Military ID Card, or Deployment or Pre-separation orders).  Please send proof to graduateadmissions@csi.cuny.edu.  Once we receive your proof, we will issue a fee waiver.

Letter of Intent:

A one to two-page letter explaining the following: What excites you most about our program? How does this program support your academic and career aspirations? What skills and experiences make you a strong candidate? Share your most significant academic and professional achievements. How will your background enrich the classroom environment?

Letters of Recommendation:

Two letters of recommendation from instructors or employers.  One letter, whenever possible, should come from a current or former employer.

Resume:

A brief 1-2 page resume which should be fully up-to-date and include all post-college work experience.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE): 

We require a score report for the GMAT or the GRE (General.) The CSI Institution code for GMAT is 282KN35 and for GRE is 2778. Students from CSI or an AACSB-accredited institution who have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher can request a waiver which is subject to review. GMAT/GRE requirement has been waived for Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 applicants.

English Proficiency Examination:  The TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE exam is required of students for whom English is a second language.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Minimum required score is 79 (Internet). For additional information or to register for the exam, please visit the TOEFL website at www.ets.org. Our institutional code is 2778.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): We will only accept the academic exam scores. The minimum required score is 6.5 (overall band).  For additional information or to register for the exam, please visit the IELTS website www.ielts.org.
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Minimum required score is 53. For additional information or to register for the exam, please visit the PTE website www.pearsonpte.com.
  • Duolingo English Test: Minimum required score is 100. For additional information or to register for the exam, please visit the Duolingo website.
