I selected CSI, because it is one of the most affordable colleges in New York. It is fully accessible and contains an advanced, networked infrastructure to support technology-based teaching, learning and research. Also, it has the major that I was interested in, which was Computer Science and last but not least it was the closest to one of my relatives’ house.

I am Nadia, an international student from Jamaica. I expressed my longing to pursue a bachelor's degree in Social Work in New York City. My friend and professor recommended a list of CUNY colleges. I selected The College of Staten Island (CSI) because of its alluringly clean and picturesque campus, its remoteness from the hub of the city and it its outstanding social work program.

GAMOI

Why did you select CSI?

During my search for a college in NYC I noticed that most campuses covered a small area and were surrounded by many different buildings. I then noticed CSI which had a large and inspiring campus which seemed rich with academic opportunities and a variety of recreational activities.

What did you like most about CSI?

As an international student, adjusting to a new school in a different country came with many procedures which were often unfamiliar. CSI has very courteous and friendly staff members who are easy to interact with and always willing to assist with any issues that I encountered.

What clubs or organizations were you involved in at CSI?

I was a member of the International Students Club. We met weekly and took part in a variety of activities which allowed us to learn about different cultural practices and understand New York's multicultural society better. I also took part in different intramural sporting events which are offered each semester. One semester we were able to assemble a large enough team of international students to take part in the indoor soccer tournament.

What advice would you give to a student considering CSI for future studies?

When starting college it is very common for persons to be undecided when it comes to choosing a career which gives rise to uncertainty when selecting a specific major. At CSI you will be able to explore a wide range of majors to discover the field which is right for you. If you need help in deciding you can take advantage of academic advising opportunities offered each semester or you can visit the Center for Career and Professional Development and explore internship opportunities.

GREIK

Why did you select CSI?

I selected CSI, because it is one of the most affordable colleges in New York. It is fully accessible and contains an advanced, networked infrastructure to support technology-based teaching, learning and research. Also, it has the major that I was interested in, which was Computer Science and last but not least it was the closest to one of my relatives’ house.

What did you like most about CSI?

What I liked most about CSI is that it is a very organized college. Every building is dedicated to a major. One of the places that I liked the most was the library. There, you can find hundreds of high technology computers and you can print anything you want for FREE. In addition, the professors are very skilled and professional. If you ever feel bored, a lot of student activities are organized almost every day around the campus or you can even join a club that you are interested in.

What clubs or organization were you involved in at CSI?

The club that I was a part of at CSI was the International Students Club, where I was an officer as well. This club had given me the chance to foster new relationships with students from different countries. I was able to share my culture and also learn about other countries and their traditions. We met every week on Tuesdays and we had a lot of fun. Every week we had a special event and there was always food, music and company!

What advice would you give to a student considering CSI for future studies?

The advice I would give to a student considering CSI for future studies would be to stay focused on school work. I would also suggest to become part of a club they would be interested in. Being in a club will give them a chance to find people with the same interests. If you want to succeed, definitely CSI is the best choice for you!

NADIA

Why did you select CSI?

I am Nadia, an international student from Jamaica. I expressed my longing to pursue a bachelor's degree in Social Work in New York City. My friend and professor recommended a list of CUNY colleges. I selected The College of Staten Island (CSI) because of its alluringly clean and picturesque campus, its remoteness from the hub of the city and it its outstanding social work program.

What did you like most about CSI?

What I liked most about CSI was the remarkable number of academic stalwarts and professionals with scholastic achievements that serve as professors. The professors are simply excellent, not only because of their numerous academic qualifications, but also their practical experiences and achievements outside of the classroom.

What clubs or organization as CSI have you been involved in?

There is a host of clubs and societies at CSI. I was the president of the International Students Club. Our club was unique and relevant since it was home to the many international studies who join the CSI family every semester. I also volunteered as an International Peer Advisor at The Center for Global Engagement.

What advice would you give to a student considering CSI for future studies?

Anyone who considers studying at CSI has already begun to take a step in the right academic and professional direction. To these intuitive and ambitious hopefuls I say: strive for excellence, prepare to immerse yourself in the complete college experience, cultivate uplifting friendships and benefit holistically from the many opportunities that CSI offers.
