Geologic Tour of the College of Staten Island Campus

Our beautiful 204-acre campus is an outdoor geologic laboratory, which shows boulders of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks that were deposited here about 20,000 years ago by a glacier. One of the large boulders shows a mud-cracked shale attached to a large piece of the 192 million year old palisade sill. In the North Campus, there is a USGS stream gauge and in the South Campus, there is a USGS groundwater gauge. We will see how storm water is managed around the campus and Professor Benimoff will show how our campus relates to the hydrologic cycle.
