Prior to coming to CSI and the Graduate Center in 2005, Professor Kruk was
a Visiting Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA
(2003 to 2005). He held positions as a Postdoctoral
Fellow (1998-2003), Research Assistant (1997-1998), and Teaching
Assistant (1994-1996) at Kent State University, Kent, OH. During the
Summer of 1993, Professor Kruk participated in the Summer Undergraduate
Research Program at Baylor University in Waco,TX.
Professor Kruk’s research interests include:
•Synthesis of ordered nanoporous materials by design.
•Application of controlled polymerizations in the synthesis of nanostructured materials, including porous inorganic/polymer nanocomposites.
•Application of ordered nanoporous materials as templates for nanostructures synthesis, hosts for nanoobjects, and immobilization media for biomolecules for catalysis, sensing and pharmaceutical applications.
•Development of approaches for tailoring of the pore diameter, pore entrance size, framework composition, surface functionality, and structure type of ordered nanoporous materials.
•Development of methods for accurate determination of specific surface area, pore diameter, phase composition, and for characterization of surface properties of nanoporous materials.
•Development of nanoporous materials with closed pores.
