Melanie McNulty teaches in our writing program with a background in TESOL and Writing Center interests. In the writing classroom, she focuses her pedagogy to bring out and honor students’ full linguistic and rhetorical potentials to build confidence and agency in who students are, where they come from, and what they have to say. Deeply concerned about the potential for implicit linguicism in diverse writing classrooms, Melanie has merged progressive critical theory with stylistic practices adapted from traditional rhetorics to create writing activities based in textual play and experimentation. These activities allow students to grow by expanding and exploring rhetorical choices, while avoiding linguistic coercion.
Melanie is a double CSI alum: she holds a BA in English with a concentration in writing and a minor in linguistics, and an MA with a concentration in rhetoric and composition.
