College of Staten Island (CSI) has joined with St. George’s University (SGU) to offer students an opportunity to obtain a unique Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine degree (BS/MD). Enrolled students spend the first four years of their studies as part of College of Staten Island’s premedical program. Qualified students then proceed to Grenada to enter SGU’s four-year Doctor of Medicine program.
CSI has also joined the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) to offer a BMCC/CSI/SGU pathway program. After successfully completing two years of undergraduate study at BMCC and earning their associate degree, qualified students will continue at CSI for two years and SGU for four years.

Combined BS/MD Degree Program - 4+4 Pathway
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
Applicants to the BS/MD Pathway are reviewed holistically by the Committee on Admissions at St. George’s University School of Medicine. However, some general guidelines and requirements include:
- Strong high school grades in the sciences and math
- A 500-word essay explaining your interest in pursuing a career in medicine and what has attracted you to apply to the BS/MD Pathway
- Two letters of recommendation (prefer at least one letter from a science teacher)
- Evidence of involvement with school, community and/or extracurricular activities
- Upon conclusion of the undergraduate program at the College of Staten Island, students must maintain a GPA of 3.4 or above, and obtain a competitive score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) within 5 points of the average MCAT score for entering students, which is 498.

Students who are residents of the State of New York must be admitted and have also paid a seat deposit in order to be eligible for a complimentary visit. Students who are residents of the State of Florida are not eligible for a complimentary visit due to state regulations. BMCC/CSI/SGU School of Medicine Partnership - 2+2+4 Pathway
PROGRAM
In the BMCC/CSI/SGU pathway program, students will begin their studies at BMCC. After successfully completing two years of undergraduate study at BMCC and earning their associate degree, qualified students will continue at the College of Staten Island.
After successfully completing the baccalaureate degree at the College of Staten Island, qualified students will proceed to Grenada and enter the first year of St. George’s University School of Medicine.
ADVANTAGES
- Students enter St. George’s University’s medical program directly, without competing for a slot.
- Qualified students are eligible to be considered for all SGU scholarships, including the CityDoctors Scholarship with NYC Health + Hospitals.
- SGU students can complete their clinical training and residency requirements at an extensive network of hospitals both in the US and internationally.
ADMISSIONS PROCESS
Students may apply to this pathway at the time they apply to the College of Staten Island (CSI) or while a matriculated student at CSI.
Upon receipt of applications, the College of Staten Island and Saint George’s University will work together to select suitable candidates, who meet the standards of CSI and SGU, and formal interviews will be conducted by Saint George’s University.
In order to be eligible to proceed to the SGU School of Medicine in this program, students must:
- maintain a cumulative and School of Medicine prerequisite coursework grade point average (GPA) competitive with the incoming class average of 3.4 and 3.2, respectively, while enrolled at CSI and
- obtain a competitive score on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) within 5 points of the average MCAT score for entering students. The current average is approximately 498.
Students who are currently enrolled at BMCC in the A.S. degree prior to the execution of this agreement may also apply to the program and CSI/SGU will review for admittance.
For students who do not meet the admission requirements of the 2+2+4 Program, there may be opportunities for alternative programs/pathways for entrance into the MD Program. Any such opportunities shall be discussed and agreed to by the parties.
SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE MD PROGRAM
Students that are accepted in the 2+2+4 Program will each receive a $10,000 scholarship from Saint George’s University upon matriculation into the MD Program. Qualified graduates are eligible to be considered for all SGU scholarships such as the Chancellor’s Circle Legacy of Excellence currently valued at $120,000.
Students will be advised of the scholarship opportunity at the point of full admission to SGU and the scholarship will be indicated on the student’s SGU offer letter. Scholarships will only be formally awarded and disbursed once a student has successfully matriculated into the MD Program, and then the award will be disbursed evenly over the terms of the MD Program.
