The 25 Student Government senators represent the student body's interests through the implementation of innovative programs, services, and initiatives that enrich student lives. Eight commissions work on these missions: the Academic and Student Affairs Commission, the Campus Center, the Student Facilities and Sustainability Commission, the Club Commission, the Accessibility, Inclusion, and Diversity Commission, the Student Services Commission, The Student Elections and Advocacy Commission, The Non-Traditional Students Commission, and The Fiscal and Financial Affairs Commission. There are also numerous committees that the Student Government decides to create to help better the planning and functions of the CSI’s Student Government initiatives. Student government also allows students to discuss finances and develop skills for financing and budgeting applicable in the real world. Student government gives insight into handling money for an event or fundraising responsibly. Through its Club Commission, the Student Government provides funding and operational assistance to approximately 40 clubs annually and sponsors the Club Fair, Club Festival, and Club Awards Ceremony.

Elections are held in the spring semester, with in-house elections at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, should any vacancies need to be filled. Any student who has earned at least six (6) credits with a GPA of 2.25 or above can run for a seat on the Student Government. To run for the President and Vice President seat, students must have at least 6 credits and a GPA of 2.5 or above.
